HS Softball: Player of Year among 10 first-team all-state picks from Section 4 (2024)

Class D Player of the Year Addison Makowski of state champion Deposit-Hanco*ck is among 10 softball players from Section 4 to be selected first-team all-state by the New York State Sports Writers and Coaches Organization for Girls Sports.

Coaches of the Year included Mike Johnston Jr. of state champion Corning in Class AAA and Dan Briggs of Deposit-Hanco*ck in Class D.

Section 4 had 33 all-state picks among the six classes.

Makowski, a junior, struck out 21 and pitched a two-hitter to lead the Eagles to a 13-0 win over Salem in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class D title game.

She posted a 14-2 pitching record with a 0.63 ERA and struck out 231 batters over 105 innings. Makowski was a .444 batter and hit four home runs.

Joining Makowski as repeat first-team all-state picks from Section 4 were Vestal senior shortstop Caitlyn Petteys in Class AA and Thomas A. Edison senior pitcher/third baseman Gabby Milazzo in Class B.

Other Section 4 first-team picks were Corning's Matti Johnston and Peyton Sullivan in Class AAA, Vestal's Kendall Brady in Class AA, Sidney's Ava Cirigliano in Class B, Bainbridge-Guilford's Gabriella Cuozzo in Class C, and Deposit-Hanco*ck's Sarah Gross and Olivia Johnston in Class D.

The all-state team was edited by Perry Novak, co-president of NYSSCOGS, based on nominations from across the state.
