Meeting Day - Salome_Sinverguenza - One Piece (Anime & Manga) [Archive of Our Own] (2024)

X Drake had a meeting with Fleet Admiral Sakazuki about the information he’s gathered thus far as a pirate; he would then meet up with the other members of SWORD to discuss the course of their mission. He’s looking forward to dinner because he has plans to meet with Sengoku, Rocinante, and -

“Why, if it isn’t Dory?”

Drake groaned in annoyance. He knows that haughty voice, and although he was - in hindsight - looking forward to having dinner with him, he also has the strong urge to punch his smug face.

“Law.” He greeted stiffly, looking down at him. Drake and Law have a complicated relationship. They were both rescued by the Marines on the same day on Minion Island. While X Drake was relatively grateful for being rescued by the Navy, Law had the appreciation of an irritated, wet, cat.

Both of them were placed under Sengoku’s and Rocinante’s custody and grew up as enemies/siblings. They didn’t get along well and would often fight each other. Law liked using Drake as a guinea pig for testing out his Devil Fruit powers, which would lead to even more fights. There was even a point where Rocinante and Sengoku had to respectively hold Law and Drake from killing each other.

A few months following his rescue, Drake quickly enlisted as a cadet. Sengoku was proud and pulled the boy into a great hug, while Rocinante ruffled his hair, smiled, and said that if that’s what he wanted then he’s happy for him. Law scoffed at him but gave him a lukewarm congratulation.

It was more than enough.

“What brings you to headquarters Dory? I thought you were still playing pirate.” Law asked, walking beside Drake.

“I have a meeting with Fleet Admiral Sakazuki.”

“How about that, so do I. Well, aren’t we lucky? The bastard’s had a temper lately.”

“And whose fault is that?” Law only chuckled in response but made no further comment. “You know you’re still on probation after your little stint on Dressrosa and your temporary alliance with the Straw Hat Pirates.”

Law clicked his tongue. “I don’t see a problem. Doflamingo’s rotting in Impel Down as we speak, and the people of Dressrosa are finally free from his tyranny. I’d say it was a job well-done.”

“The higher ups don’t have a very high opinion of you. It’s a miracle Sengoku has managed to cover your ass for this long.” Drake said, narrowing his eyes at Law.

”It’s a good thing there’s only one person whose opinion I care about then.” Law smirked.

While he was away for training, Drake heard from Sengoku that Law and Rocinante were in the midst of an argument. Rocinante wanted Law to live a free and happy life and tried to find him an apprenticeship with a doctor far, far, far away from Marineford. Law was furious and accused Rocinante of wanting to get rid of him. At this point, it was already well-known how much Law hated the Navy and World Government that it didn’t make sense for him to willing stay at Marineford. Drake never learned the root of Law’s hatred, and when he asked Rocinante, he said that Law had his reasons and left it at that.

Although Drake wasn’t Law’s biggest fan, he was concerned about Law’s and Rocinante’s relationship. Ever since he met the pair, they were never too far from each other. They both had suffered greatly at the hands of the Donquixote Pirates and did travel with each other for an extended period of time to cure Law’s illness. He also never learned what exactly Law had, only that he was very sick and could’ve died. Drake only saw Law truly happy and at peace in Rocinante’s arms. Sengoku told him things were tense, but he believed that they would work it out.

And they did work it out.

Because Law decided to become a Marine if it meant he could stay by Rocinante’s side.

A few months later, Law arrived at the training camp, and he and Drake both had a somewhat friendly reunion. They had an unspoken rivalry of sorts, but Law was ultimately shown to be a prodigy. He was the best in fighting, marksmanship, and swordsmanship, skills he developed while under the Donquixote Pirates. He was also shown to have keen intellect in strategizing and planning; not to mention, he would also be apprenticing with some doctors and surgeons in his spare time. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do.

Drake was more than aware of how precocious Law could be. He did live with him for a while, and he was used to Law just being Law. Drake would tease and say that it wouldn’t kill him to sleep more. Law would promptly behead him and hide his head somewhere in the training camp.

Even though they had lost contact with each other, Drake was very aware of what Law had been doing and the reputation he had been accumulating. He made history for being the youngest admiral ever appointed, and Drake can’t say he’s surprised. The brat’s ambitious.

He had saved Straw Hat Luffy after the death of Fire Fist Ace and teamed up with him to take down Donquixote Doflamingo. Law claimed that as a doctor he had an obligation to fulfill the Hippocratic Oath and help Straw Hat Luffy, but Drake calls bullsh*t. He’s seen Law refuse to treat a fellow Marine who sustained an injury to the jugular. In fact, he knows that Law slowed the rate at which blood drained from his body, leaving him to die an agonizingly slow death. The Marine had sealed his fate the moment he bad-mouthed Rocinante in front of Law. Drake was more than willing to turn a blind eye at that.

“Dory! Law!” Rocinante waved at them from down the hall with the widest grin on his face. It never ceased to amaze Drake how Law could go from being an aloof bastard to a lovestruck fool in a drop of a hat. Drake could see Law’s cold, sharp eyes soften into pools of honey.

“Cora-san.” Law greeted softly, a small smile forming on his lips. The man was truly ridiculous. Even after all these years, he still doesn’t refer to Rocinante by his real name, only the codename he was given while under Doflamingo. Rocinante seems to tolerate it, so Drake couldn’t be too upset.

Drake knows they’re a couple. They’ve been together for a while now.

He’d seen how Law’s affection for Rocinante had changed from being platonic to romantic. Before their paths diverged and Law was groomed to be an admiral and Drake was sent undercover, they would often visit Sengoku and Rocinante together. Drake had a front row seat to seeing the normally cool, calm, and collected Law turn into a blushing mess around Rocinante. And, Rocinante, bless his heart, didn’t understand the change in Law’s behavior. Or, if he did, he refused to acknowledge it.

Drake was under Rocinante’s tutelage when it came to learning how to be a good and effective spy. He grew up and saw Rocinante as a kind and clumsy man that he often forgot that he was spying on his own brother years before Law joined. He was cunning and intelligent and wasn’t above using his clumsiness to throw suspicion off him. He’s also not someone above feigning ignorance when it came to subjects he refuses to acknowledge. He knows that a few years back that Law started to really push his feelings towards Rocinante, and Rocinante skittered away as best he could.

He's not sure how they happened, and frankly, he doesn’t want to know. As long as they’re both happy, then everything’s great in his book.

Law stepped away from Drake and went to Rocinante’s side. He took one of Rocinante’s hands and wrapped it around his shoulder and then leaned his head against Rocinante’s hip.

“Rocinante, how are you?” Drake greeted, and Rocinante ruffled Drake’s head with his free hand.

“I’m good. I’ve had a long day, but I’m glad to see you here. Sengoku’s in the other room with Akainu and the other admirals. I’ll see you three once your meetings end. How have you been Dory?”

“Can’t complain. The seas have treated us well, and we haven’t gotten into too much trouble. I’ve been keeping appearances, and no one even suspects me as of right now. I’m following your example to not get too close. ”

“That’s great but be careful Drake.” Rocinante warned, hand falling from Drake’s head to rest on his shoulder. “Our situations were different. I infiltrated an already established crew while yours is comprised of people you’ve actively recruited and grown to trust as part of your cover.”

“I understand.” Drake responded, closing his eyes briefly in thought. He tells himself that he’s not close to his crew, but he’s lying to himself. They’re important to him and would do anything to ensure their safety. But, he also has a mission to fulfill, and his subordinates from SWORD are just as important, even more so if he says so himself. When the times comes, he’s not sure-

“Don’t you have a meeting to get to?” Law drawled, motioning for Drake to get going.

This punk just loves getting on his nerves.

“We’re going to the same meeting you asshole!” Drake barked out, glaring at Law, and Law, the cheeky bastard, only smirked in response.

“Law.” Rocinante sighed. “Not now.”

“I haven’t done anything . . . yet. Besides, I’m only look out for Dory. He should really get going.”

“Law, please.”

“Fine with me asshole. I’ll see you inside.” Drake muttered under his breath. “It was nice seeing you again Rocinante. Can’t wait for dinner. Law?”

Law lifted his head in Drake’s direction.

“f*ck you.”

Law let out a low chuckle and flipped him the bird. He stalked past the pair to the room, composed himself, and then opened the door to the meeting room. He steals a quick glance back at the couple and see Law tug Rocinante down to his level by his tie. He sees a blush bloom on Rocinante’s face and an embarrass smile form on his lips. Drake sees the distance closing between the two; Law’s lips are moving, but he can’t make out what he’s saying before . . . He promptly shuts the door.

As he said before, he doesn’t want to know.
