HOBBS, N.M.– A Hobbs teenager was airlifted to Lubbock after a shooting that happened early Saturday morning, according to the Hobbs Police Department.
Hobbs PD said the shooting took place in the 2000 block of North Kinglsey Street at 12:20 a.m. When officers got to the scene, they found 18-year-old James Lara-Salazar of Hobbs suffering from several gunshot wounds.

According to Hobbs PD, officers performed life-saving measures, and Lara-Salazar was taken to Covenant Health Hobbs Hospital by EMS before being airlifted to a Lubbock hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Hobbs PD said the investigation is active, and anyone with information regarding the shooting is encouraged to call dispatch at (575) 397-9265 or contact Lea County Crime Stoppers at (575) 393-8005.
